Midway Marina to Bay Springs Lake (anchorage)

Day 84  •
Anchored in a cove on the RDB, great spot.

DeWayne Hayes (anchorage) to Midway Marina

Day 83  •
Got into the marina just before a big storm.

Sumter Creek (anchorage) to Dewayne Hayes (anchorage)

Day 82  •
Great anchorage, easy shore access, park, good holding.

Kingfisher Bay Marina to Sumter Creek (anchorage)

Day 81  •
A bit thin getting into the anchorage, but didn't bump. Split the middle and the upper bank. Maybe 2 other boats came in later.

Bashi Creek (anchorage) to Kingfisher Bay Marina

Day 80  •
Second lock, Demopolis. Picked up packages at the new fuel dock. La Duche wasn't as cranky as usual.

Three Rivers (anchorage) to Bashi Creek (anchorage)

Day 79  •
Locked through Coffeeville. Stern anchored in creek--should have set main anchor more on the other side, but we were fine. Pontoon boat loading out leaked gasoline everywhere, which of course settled around our boat.

Mobile Convention Center (paid wall) to Three Rivers (anchorage)

Day 78  •
Nothing memorable about the travel. Anchorage was OK, boats and houseboats farther in. Dinghied Lizzie to a spoil bank down the river a bit.

Dauphine Island (anchorage) to Mobile Convention Center (paid wall)

Day 77  •
Another great travel day. I rented a car and ran back to NOLA, Jax had a rough day getting bounced around on the boat. Nice dinner downtown.

Bay St Louis Marina to Dauphine Island (anchorage)

Day 76  •
Rough from the marina through the bridge, weirdly, but then lovely all day. Anchorage wasn't pretty but well protected.

New Orleans Municipal Marina to Bay St Louis Marina

Day 75  •
through the ICW this time. Lovely day.

Bay St Louis Marina to New Orleans Municipal Marina

Day 40  •
Another excellent travel day. Waited on Rigolets railroad bridge a bit. Really nice marina.

Biloxi Marina to Bay St Louis Marina

Day 39  •
Great travel day, excellent water, one of our favorite marinas.

The Wharf Marina to Biloxi marina

Day 38  •
After many days we had an apparent weather window to get to NOLA. Pretty rocky crossing the mouth of Mobile Bay, did some zigzagging. Calmed completely as we passed under the Dauphine Island bridge. Nice the rest of the way to Biloxi.

Fort McRae (anchorage) to the Wharf Marina

Day 32  •
Nothing of particular note. Pumped out on arrival. They moved our slip assignment to a less tight slip, but we moved back a few days later as we waited out the incessant storms.

Destin Harbor (anchorage) to Fort McRae (anchorage)

Day 31  •
Via Two Georges for fuel and an attempted pump out, which failed. Stayed on their dock for a bit to wait out yet another storm.

Hogtown Bayou (anchorage) to Destin Harbor (anchorage)

Day 29  •
Mostly hugged the shore to minimize fetch from south winds. Had to go out to pass the bridge, got a bit nasty. Anchored in the harbor, dinghied to a restaurant dock. Stayed two nights due to heavy storms, 50 knot sustained, gusts to 80, anchor held great.

Pearl Bayou (anchorage) to Hogtown Bayou (anchorage)

Day 28  •
Day started out great, but weather deteriorated as we headed towards Destin. We diverted into Hogtown when we had some nasty rolling from beam seas. Heavy thunderstorms that evening.

Apalachicola (marina) to Pearl Bayou (anchorage)

Day 27  •
placeholder

The Wharf Marina to Two Georges Marina

Day 234  •
We were out very early to move to the fuel dock and pump out. Nice cruising day towards Destin. Quite windy when we got to Two Georges--it blew us directly on the dock. Took on about 480 gallons of diesel. Spent the night on a dock, nothing around, for $2/ft, hardly a bargain, but we didn't want to...

Two Georges Marina to Pearl Bayou (anchorage)

Day 235  •
Out around nautical twilight. Long run across the bay, then the FL "grand canyon," then Panama City Bay, and onto the anchorage. Dinghied Lizzie to shore twice with no success, so she slept in the guest head. Quiet night in anchorage, with 4 unmanned sailboats as company.

Pearl Bayou (anchorage) to Apalachicola (marina)

Day 236  •
Departed at nautical twilight. Nice weather, pretty easy cruise. Arrived around 2 pm, picked up some beer, dinner at the tapas place. Topped off water.

Apalachicola (marina) to Steinhatchee (marina)

Day 237  •
Left at nautical twilight after snagging breakfast biscuits, around St George Island and across. Conditions similar to forecast, though winds shifting to north and moderating happened about 3 hours later than predicted. Still a great ride all in all. Ran large sections at 2900 RPM, nearing 9-10 kts....

Steinhatchee (Sea Hag Marina) to Anclote Key (anchorage)

Day 238  •
Left at nautical twilight, long run out channel. Wind at ENE, not much chop within 10 miles of shore, mostly quartering stern. Went a bit wider twice, with chop building to 2-3' at 20 NM off of and below Cedar Keys. A relatively short run east brought calmer seas, all in all pretty comfortable. Ran...

Anclote Key (anchorage) to Longboat Key Moorings (Home Marina)

Day 239  •
Anchor held well against the 1-2' chop that eventually dropped to <1' from the east. Bridles and chain came up clean, a bit of clay on the anchor. We returned to the channel then out the cut below Ancote, with plenty of water at low tide. Ran outside past Clearwater and across the Tampa Bay ship...

Turkey Point (anchorage) to Tensaw River (anchorage)

Day 229  •
Great run down to Coffeeville, locked through with Uno Mas and Buena Vida. Long run to Tensaw River, but another nice anchorage. 2 mile dinghy ride back up the river for Lizzie in the evening.

Kingfisher Bay Marina to Turkey Point (anchorage)

Day 228  •
another early start; locked down through Demopolis with 8 other boats. Were planning on going to Okkotuppa but the anchorage looked great, which it was. Easy dinghy to sandy beach/spoil area for the dog.

Tensaw River Anchorage to The Wharf Marina

Day 230  •
Early start. Stopped at Mobile Convention Center for a few hours to let the bay settle down, which worked perfectly. Diverted from ship channel below the Dog River cutoff, saw 4.5' under the keel at the lowest. Beating the weather and wind in.

Tenn Tombigbee (anchorage) to Kingfisher Bay Marina

Day 226  •
A bit messy landing Lizzie at the boat ramp due to overnight rain. Left about 2 miles behind the early out boats; got in about 3 miles ahead. Took on 100 gallons of fuel, pumped out. Staying two nights after 10 straight days of travel.

Dewayne Hayes (anchorage) to Tenn Tombigbee Ox Bow (anchorage)

Day 225  •
Another early start. 2 boats left Columbus about when we left the anchorage--slow cruisers. We didn't hail the lock until they were on the way down to avoid holding them up. We tied on the wall, but the lock cycled quickly. We waited for 5 more boats from Columbus, and off we went. The same group lo...

Owen Cove (anchorage) to Dewayne Hayes (anchorage)

Day 224  •
From one great anchorage to another. Long day, though. Left before sun was up, locked through Rankin Lock on our own, then a short run to Fulton Lock. A group had left Midway about as we left Rankin, but the lock master held them for a small sailing boat that lagged behind. We overtook it and entere...

Waterfall (anchorage) to Owen Cove (anchorage)

Day 223  •
Waited on the fog a bit, but headed out around 7:30. Picked up Apres Sail passing their anchorage. Foggier as we started down the Tenn-Tom, heavy but not maximum thick all the way to the canal. Lifted like magic at 9 am, as forecast. With doppler radar, multiple electronic charts and positioning dev...

Florence Harbor Marina to Waterfall (anchorage)

Day 222  •
Waited on the fog, then headed down river. Great little anchorage with a small waterfall and a sand/gravel bar to land the dinghy. Surrounded by low rock walls, lovely. Stern tied to a downed tree. One of the best anchorages ever.

Wilson Lock wall to Florence Harbor Marina

Day 221  •
Up early as usual. Waited for the upbound loopers to enter the lock, then headed down the canal to Florence Harbor. Tied off on the long wall, waited for the dock master to show up. He asked us to move to the fuel dock beyond the pumps. Shopped, ran, ate at the restaurant. Topped off the water.

Second Creek (anchorage) to Wilson Aux Lock lower wall

Day 220  •
Called Wheeler Lock before leaving the anchorage. We tied on the Aux Lock long wall while the tow Ms Rita entered. We followed, taking the gap on her port to the front of the lock. As we left we passed a flock of looper boats heading to the Rendezvous. Wilson Lake has choppy, 1-2 on the nose for a w...

Ditto Landing (marina) to Second Creek (anchorage)

Day 219  •
Reasonably early start, pretty straightforward day. Saw Apres Sail enter Joe Wheeler Lock as we turned into the anchorage. Short dinghy ride to reasonable dog walking area. Rain on and off, more forecast overnight.

Lake Guntersville Yacht Club (marina) to Ditto Landing Marina

Day 218  •
An early start, but not early enough. 3 tows in the area. One headed for a landing, one between us and the lock, but not going very fast, and one between us and the bridge, just getting underway. We asked to pass after the bridge, and did, but he kept speeding up as we did, eventually going over 10...

Shellmound (free dock) to Lake Guntersville Yacht Club (marina)

Day 217  •
Up early, called the lock. They were ready for us, so off we went. A bit foggy as we started downstream, but eventually cleared off. Great yacht club; excellent docks, discounted diesel for members and guests, and pump out. Beth and Rip Tyler picked us up for dinner at Wintzner's--quite good, nice t...

Chattanooga Commercial Dock (marina) to Shellmound (free dock)

Day 216  •
Gloomy overcast day to run down the gorge. We arrived as Scout and Spirit were heading to the lock to lock down.

Booker T Washington State Park (anchorage) to Chattanooga (marina)

Day 213  •
A bit foggy as we headed to the Chickamagua Lock. No big delay getting in, but waited a while for 2 other boats to join. Short fast run to Chattanooga. On the commerical dock, a bit public, a bit bouncy. Met not just one but 2 ex-Endeavour owners as we pulled up. Das Boot, a solo looper, pulled in b...

Watts Bar Resort (free dock) to Booker T Washington State Park (anchorage)

Day 212  •
The free dock was quiet, even a bit spooky, what with the buzzards, dead deer, etc. We tried hailing the lock as we left the dock; he responded, and we motored straight in. Had a great conversation with him as he passed on his cart. Lovely day traveling back to a great anchorage. 4 sailboats rafted...

Fort Loudoun Marina to Watts Bar Resort (free dock)

Day 211  •
Filled water, pumped out, locked down, overcast morning, broken skies midday. Watts Bar Resort is a floating dock for a closed resort, just above Watts Bar Lock. Chased off buzzards working on skin and bones of a dead deer on the boat ramp.

Tellico Yacht Club (free dock) to Fort Loudoun Marina

Day 210  •
Another short day. Needed one more stop at the marina for more provisions. Washed the worst of the dirt off the decks.

Cow Pature Cove (anchorage) to Tellico Yacht Club (free dock)

Day 209  •
Not quite 2 miles, tough day. Moved from anchorage to free dock, then dinner with Apres Sail and Spirit at the Blue Heron. Good food, server didn't space stuff out, but pretty tasty. Overcast day.

Sequoyah Museum (Free Dock) to Cow Pasture Cove (anchorage)

Day 208  •
Via a detour to Ball Play Creek anchorage. We cruised down the Tellico River, turned onto Ball Play Creek, and anchored in the cove with the boat dock--the Active Captain marked cove seemed tight, and more exposed to road traffic noise. Dropped the anchor, then realized we had zero network--no ATT,...

Fort Loudoun Marina to Sequoyah Museum (anchorage)

Day 206  •
Foggy morning. Took a run before heading out. Pretty uneventful run to the anchorage. Apres Sail tied up to the dock, we anchored in ~13 ft. Dropped the dinghy, took Lizzie to shore and back, then toured the museum--interesting and well done. Then the 4 of us dinghied to the fort and toured it. On t...

Harrison Island (anchorage) to Fort Loudoun Marina

Day 205  •
First destination was Sequoyah Marina to pump out and take on water. Got the water, but the pump out wasn't up to it, so we traveled back to Fort Loudoun Marina. Pump out is self-service, which requires finding the countdown timer on the back of the power panel to get the pump running. Great system...

Fort Loudoun Historic Area (anchorage) to Harrison Island (anchorage)

Day 204  •
Pretty morning, short run to farthest point up Little Tennessee. Strong cold wind as we arrived, pretty sure it's a local weather effect. Anchored in 10' of cold, clear water. A little sketchy getting here, through old railroad trestles, about 40' spacing, but no problems. Saw Jenny on anchor, a big...

Power Line Anchorage to Fort Loudoun State Historic Area (anchorage)

Day 202  •
Another foggy morning. Short pretty run to the next anchorage, just below the replica British fort. Easy dinghy ride to retaining wall next to picnic area, clean bathroom, great trails, etc. Stayed 2 nights. Took a run on 2nd day.

Lenoir (anchorage) to Power Line Anchorage

Day 201  •
Very foggy morning. Weird getting the anchor up--the bridles had fouled on something, had to twist around multiple times to get them free. Then chain fouled on something as well, so more twisting. Then 80 ft up clean, and the anchor released pretty easily. Short run to the next anchorage. Took a run...

Fort Loudoun Yacht Club (marina) to Lenoir (anchorage)

Day 200  •
Slow start, foggy morning again. Left between 9 and 10. Nice club, friendly people. Pretty but uneventful trip to the anchorage, just outside Fort Loudoun Marina. Initially thought we'd tie up to the dock at the park, but very small cleats, and quite a park crowd on Sunday, so decided to gain a bit...

Knoxville City Dock (free wall) to Fort Loudoun Yacht Club (Marina)

Day 198  •
Quiet night, very foggy morning. Let as it burned off; blue skies emerged on the short run to the yacht club. Fueled up at a great price, nearly 400 gallons. Very nice club, friendly people.

Fort Loudoun Marina to Knoxville City Dock (free wall)

Day 196  •
Wasn't raining when we left, but a strong squall as the cold front passed about an hour out. Temp dropped around 8 degrees. Still misting a bit when we docked. Walked into town to Yassin's Falafel for a tasty late lunch. Plan to spend 2 nights here.

Terraceview Marina to Fort Loudoun Marina

Day 194  •
Another rainy day. Pretty run up Watts Bar Lake. Fort Loudoun is another small lock with a big lift--72 ft! Transient dock at the marina was way back--at first we thought we were at the wrong spot. Still had 3-4 ft under the keel. Good meal at the barbecue restaurant next door.

Grasshopper Creek (anchorage) to Terraceview Marina

Day 193  •
Dinghy ride in the gloom and light rain. Beautiful ride throughout the day. Watts Bar Lock turned the lock the wrong direction when we called, so had to wait a few minutes. 59' lift, 360' chamber, so pretty impressive. Arrived at Terraceview fuel dock to pump out, took a while to find anyone, after...

Booker T Washington State Park (anchorage) to Grasshopper Creek (anchorage)

Day 192  •
3 great days at Booker T Washington State Park--quiet, convenient dock, friendly people, good trails--hard to do better. Jess caught his Uber to the airport successfully, though with a misting rain while he waited. We motored an easy few hours to Grasshopper Creek, another great anchorage next to a...

The Bluffs (marina) to Booker T Washington State Park (anchorage)

Day 189  •
Great visit with John and Martha yesterday. Filled the water tanks again, about an hour to the Chickamauga Dam, which has lots of current and a construction mess to provide seasoning. Then 15 minutes or so to the anchorage. Very convenient dinghy dock, water is still, well off the channel. Very nice...

Shellmound (free dock) to The Bluffs (marina)

Day 187  •
Took an early morning run in the overcast/fog. Departed around 9, beautiful run to Chattanooga. Docked around 2. Sushi for dinner, put together the kayak w/Jesse, and filled the water tanks. Meeting John and Martha Tue afternoon, leaving Wed morning to anchor a few days in Chickamauga.

Town Creek (anchorage) to Shellmound TN (free dock)

Day 186  •
After getting Lizzie to shore, engine checks, hoisted dinghy, and off. Autogen fired up the charging at 7am, end of quiet time, batteries around 30%. Kicked off after 3.5 hours at 90%. Nice cruise to Nickajack Lock, gates opened within a few minutes. Shellmound is just above the lock, park, short T-...

Ditto Landing (marina) to Honeycomb North Slough (anchorage)

Day 184  •
Jess joined us yesterday. Returned rental car, very chilly scoot back down the Greenway. Locked through Guntersville Lock, really lots of water churn before and in the lock. Anchorage was pleasant, but long run to a dinghy dock. Jess fished, learned to run the dinghy.

Ingalls Harbor (free wall) to Ditto Landing (marina)

Day 181  •
Left around 9, fine stop. Not a fan of the Cross Eyed Owl Beer though. Too fizzy. Train on the railroad bridge, natch, but didn't take long. River is much prettier above Decatur. Ditto Landing is nice, docks in good shape, good price. Great trail for biking/scooting to food, car rental, Walmart, etc...

Joe Wheeler (anchorage) to Ingalls Harbor (free wall)

Day 180  •
Ran Lizzie to shore, took a run on the trail along the bay, engine checks, weighed anchor. Pulled into the marina for fuel (about 200 gallons), water, and pump out. Uneventful run to Decatur. Took down the scooters but ended up eating on the boat then walking to the Crooked Eye Owl Brewery. Too fizz...

Florence Harbor Marina to Joe Wheeler 2 (anchorage)

Day 176  •
Alarm at 5am, called the lock, they gave us thumbs up to show up around sunrise. Left at first light, pretty morning, waited a few minutes at the bottom, then locked up. Fast, which is good given the 95 ft lift. Upper gate drops down into the wall below. I've Got a Phil'n and we both dropped lines a...

Pickwick Landing (anchorage) to Florence Harbor Marina

Day 174  •
Lots of rain overnight, not much wind, settled down by 3:30. Misting dinghy ride to walk Lizzie. Low clouds, on and off drizzle, and increasing chop on our stern. Anchorage review here. Arrived at Florence Harbor around 2. Picked up some packages, walked to a pizza place downtown. Wilson Lock's uppe...

Wolf Island (anchorage) to Pickwick Landing (anchorage)

Day 173  •
Early start, short run so made Lizzie wait. Left anchorage upstream, between the islands, plenty of water. Saw a swimming deer, and a blue heron of course. Called the lock 2 miles out; they lowered the big chamber for us (not sure why). Only had to wait a few minutes for the doors to open. Super lou...

Cuba Landing (marina) to Wolf Island (anchorage)

Day 172  •
Departed at 8am after filling water tanks. Significant current as they lowered Pickwick Lake in anticipation of Hurricane Ida's remnants tracking through. Ran at 2450 for multiple hours, up to 2800 for 15 minutes, then 2300 for the remaining hour or two. Total of 10 hours. Nice anchorage, review on...

Pisgah Bay (anchorage) to Sugar Bay (anchorage)

Day 168  •
Very short day, made a bit longer by checking out lots of options before picking one. Nice point nearby for landing Lizzie. Saw almost no other boats in the whole (large) bay. Seriously hot and humid.

Green Turtle Bay (marina) to Pisgah Bay (anchorage)

Day 167  •
Took our time getting started since we knew it would be too hot to enjoy the anchorage. Nice spot, quiet, around the corner from the rock quarry. We checked it out--lots of painted rock wall, no doubt deep enough for jumping from the cliffs. Nice dinghy dock further up the bay from our anchorage. Pu...

Paris Landing (marina) to Cuba Landing (marina)

Day 170  •
Ran first thing before it got any hotter, plenty humid. Recycled cans and plastic and headed out. A few sprinkles, but threatening rain didn't materialize. In a covered slip today and tomorrow.

Sugar Bay (anchorage) to Paris Landing Marina

Day 169  •
Great anchorage. Dinghied Lizzie to boat ramp. Some may flies on the boat--very pale ones. Patches of flotsam from the flooding, one hard strike of something submerged. Charley and Robin saw and smelled a dead horse. They continued on to Pebble Isle. Fueled up @$3.099/gal, 448 gallons. Pumped out. A...

Lake Barkley State Park Marina to Green Turtle Bay Marina

Day 159  •
Overcast and cool as we departed. Passed 2 upbound tows, nothing much of note. Pumped out on arrival. Picked up new captain's chair and installed it--very nice. Charley and Robin are coming in later this afternoon. Packages arriving throughout the week, although probably not Lizzie's replacement ves...

Clarksville Marina to Lake Barkley State Marina

Day 158  •
Coffee, run, showers, and off we go. Overcast, occasional spits of rain. Thought to nose into a nice area to anchor, but chart showed 12+, we quickly hit 1.5'. Russ was piloting and backed out hard. Continued to originally planned anchorage, Dry Creek, Jax piloting, entry quickly went to <3 under...

Nashville Municipal Docks to Clarksville Marina

Day 157  •
Reasonably early start. Small delay at Cheatham Lock, maybe 10 minutes. Looked like we were going to arrive in a thunderstorm, but beat it out. Pretty good Mexican food, doing laundry, rainy and windy now. Turned down absorption voltage to 56, see how that goes.

Gallatin Marina to Nashville Municipal Dock

Day 155  •
Filled water, engine checks, and on our way. Hailed Old Hickory Lock at 3 miles, but knew they'd turned it for an upbound tow. They told us 3 to 3.5 hours. We caught lines on an arrival cell--no current, wind, rings easy to reach. About 2 hours later we dropped lines and entered the lock. Really slo...

Saunders Branch (anchorage) to Gallatin Marina

Day 153  •
Dinghied Lizzie to boat ramp at Bentley's Landing--looks like a better anchoring spot to me. Warm and humid, next few days have warnings. Arrived at marina around 10:30. Told to approach fuel dock to get further directions. At fuel dock he tells us to go to "A" dock and he'll wave us in. Not markers...

Stark Knob (anchorgae) to Saunders Branch (anchorage)

Day 152  •
A bit of rain overnight. Dinghied dog to shore, hoisted anchor, and headed to Old Lock 6. Along the way decided to check out this anchorage--shorter day, and chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Dropped anchor in 10'+, good hold, ~100' rode.

Commodore Yacht Club (marina) to Stark Knob (anchorage)

Day 151  •
Filled with water the night before. Reasonably early start. Through Nashville before the race madness. River narrows quite a bit, makes passing tows more exciting. Tied on the wall at Old Hickory Lock to wait 10 minutes or so for it to drop. Tried first anchorage, lots of boats, being Sunday, so mov...

Clarksville (marina) to Commodore Yacht Club (marina)

Day 149  •
Another easy day. Locked through Cheatham--no response on radio hails, so finally called. Lock master was on working channel, didn't hear us. Had to wait a few minutes. River continues to be very scenic. Pumped out at yacht club. Plan to stay at least two nights.

Hickman Creek (Anchorage) to Clarksville (Marina)

Day 148  •
Another great anchorage, easy shore access, quiet, well-protected. Easy day to Clarksville Marina. Downbound tow asked us to wait while he rounded a curve--good call, he was nearly bank to bank. Marina is nice, reasonable depth, great condition.

Goat Island (anchorage) to Hickman Creek (Anchorage)

Day 146  •
After 2 nights at a lovely anchorage, worked our way back to the Cumberland, then a lovely cruise upstream to Hickman Creek. Narrow entrance, but enough water. Anchor took a bit to settle in.

Demembers (anchorage) to Goat Island (anchorage)

Day 144  •
Explored Crooked Creek Bay, off the channel, twisty but marked. Turned around when we got into 3 ft beneath keel, should have respected the final marker. Came to Goat Island, another twisty entrance on Little River, past the Lake Barkley State Marina. Pretty, easy anchor set.

Green Turtle Bay (marina) to Demembers(anchorage)

Day 143  •
Tanked up on water, washed down the filthy deck, and headed to Big Bear Marina to fuel up at $3.159/gal, compared to $3.79 at GTB. Took on over 400 gallons. Then a quick run back through the canal to an anchorage on Barclay Lake. Sunday, so lots of boaters, but a quite nice day. Dinghied Lizzie to s...

Golgonda (marina) to Green Turtle Bay (marina)

Day 140  •
Another early start. Smithland lock doors open when we arrived. Sharp turn up the Cumberland, current against us not very strong--still ran ~7 kts. Barclay Lock doors open as well, docked in marina a bit after noon.

Nu Plaza Yacht Club (marina) to Golgonda (marina)

Day 139  •
An early start to a long day. And pretty uneventful day as well. Golgonda is off-river, and like most similar places a bit shallow. They're actively dredging, so no problem. Nice people, inexpensive. Stayed on the fuel dock. Pumped out in the evening--great pump, easy to prime, fast.

Derby (wall) to Nu Plaza Yacht Club (marina)

Day 138  •
Easy off the Derby wall, but lots of fog. One chamber only in both locks. A bit of a hold up on the first, and a longer one on the second. Dredge below Newburgh Lock made for a bit of a jam with lots of tows. Docked at 5 in Evansville, shopped at Costco and Walmart, custard at Culver's but no banana...

Louisville (marina) to Derby, In (wall)

Day 137  •
A bit of delay at McAlpine, but we passed many tows below, so a bit later would have been a huge delay. Long day, planning on Sinking Creek, but decided to check out Derby town dock. It's a bit rickety, but good cleats and enough depth, and a restaurant open on Sunday to boot. Hot, running both AC u...

Rising Sun (wall) to Louisville Public Docks (marina)

Day 135  •
Quite a foggy start, running lights, radar, and fog horn for 20 minutes or so. Cleared off. Markland lock a bit slow--only one chamber, so waited for an upbound tow, then waited for a sailboat rafted to a small boat to get in and tied up. Long easy run to Louisville. No problem docking. The sailboat...

Augusta (wall) to Rising Sun (wall)

Day 134  •
A bit of an earlier start, held up a bit due to finding oil in the pan under the starboard engine. When we fueled up at Shawnee State Park Jax reved the engines before shutting them down, as Yanmar suggests. We're guessing that blew some oil out of the turbo charger. In any case, it wasn't a lot of...

Portsmouth (marina) to Augusta (wall)

Day 133  •
We fueled up at Shawnee State Park, $3.369 ~400 gallons. Plenty of water in the harbor, which was nice. Cruised to Augusta, a bit slower--9 kts rather than 10+. Dinner on the boat. Weather in the low 80s, a bit choppy on westerly fetches.

Point Pleasant (wall) to Shawnee Boat Club (marina)

Day 132  •
Running short of water, so focus was on filling up. Fog above Robert C Byrd lock. Saw a snake swimming across the river near Ashland. An upbound tow called Greenup just before we did. When we called they told us it would be a while. They called again and directed us to hang out near the arrival cell...

Parkersburg (wall) to Point Pleasant (wall)

Day 131  •
Parkersburg wall was fine. Left early, amazing amount of flotsam in the river. Getting into Belleville, the first lock, involved pushing logs with our bow. Next pool was clear. After Racine we had more stuff, but not as bad. Averaged over 10 knots, lots of 11, at ~2100 rpm. Arrived at Point Pleasant...

New Martinsville (wall) to Parkersburg (wall)

Day 130  •
New Martinsville was an excellent stop, nice dock, good mexican restaurant on the river, plenty of depth, close to the lock so minimal wakes. Off early, one lock (Willow Island), doors opened as we approached. Pumped out at Marietta Boat Club. Planned on staying there, but a Bluewater was in front o...

Wellsburg, WV (wall) to New Martinsville, WV (wall)

Day 129  •
Port motor wouldn't start--bad relay. Jumped it and off we went. Rain on and off throughout the day. 2 locks, both opened as we approached. Traveled 9+ knots at ~2300 RPM. Great public dock in New Martinsville.

Pittsburgh (wall) to Wellsville, WV (wall)

Day 128  •
4 locks, three without bollards. Massive rain/lightning storm before New Cumberland lock. Locked through with a tow. Talked with 3 guys on a kayak trip from Pittsburgh to Marietta, older guys, not kids.

Holiday Yacht Club (marina) to Pittsburgh (wall)

Day 125  •
Took a run, blew all of the mayflies away, filled the water, engine checks, and off we went. 3 locks, all without bollards. Line from stern cleat to front, in 2 locks over 2 pins, on the 1st just one. Takes some effort to keep the boat aligned. Deckhands-in-training Brie and Harish helped. Arrived i...

Wheeling (wall) to Holiday Yacht Club (marina)

Day 124  •
2 locks; Russ piloted in second one. Nice weather, little traffic. Easy tie up in the marina. Connected to 50 amp power for the first time in a while.

Witten Towhead (anchorage) to Wheeling (wall)

Day 123  •
After walking Lizzie and stowing the dinghy we took off. Anchor came up clean. Called the Hannibal Lock and found New Martinsville had a regatta and we'd delayed until 1:30. We found a great wall at a park just downstream and tied off. After catching the first line the coast guard called and cleared...

Marietta (marina) to Witten Towhead (anchorage)

Steinhatchee (Marina) to Apalachicola (Marina)

Day 26  •
Perfect day for a gulf crossing. Maybe 1-2 at first, but eventually smooth. Saw a house going the other direction.

Cedar Keys (Anchorage) to Steinhatchee (Marina)

Day 25  •
Took the long route to avoid questionable water on other route. Great water. Docks at Steinhatchee were iffy.

Crystal River (Anchorage) to Cedar Keys (Anchorage)

Day 23  •
Nice water, not the best anchorage, but OK. Town is not great.

Tarpon Springs (Marina) to Crystal River (Anchorage)

Day 16  •
We'd moved from Port Tarpon Springs to Turtle Cove Marina for a few days. Great water to Crystal River. Anchored to wait for next weather window.

Dunedin (Anchorage) to Port Tarpon Marina (Marina)

Day 3  •
Tied up on their fuel dock. Agreed to haul out so I could clean bottom, running gear.

Gulfport (Marina) to Dunedin (Anchor)

Day 2  •
Lots of small boat traffic. Anchored off Dunedin. Dinghy trip for Lizzie, ate at restaurant.

First Day: Longboat Key (Marina) to Gulfport (Marina)

Day 1  •
We had an easy crossing of the mouth of Tampa Bay. Took a route towards Gulfport that has a 17 ft fixed bridge--had to drop the radar but cleared with no problems. Took on fuel, then moved to a slip. Walked to dinner at Italian place downtown.

Clifton Marina to Paris Landing State Park (Marina)
